nothing new - just more of the old stuff...
I just sent for "Ernstologi", the book I wrote about a few days ago. Weee!
I think I´m going to Stockholm for a fast one after work today, to look for Cram Cream, and buy some kitchen towels with pretty pastries for my new, white kitchen. Maybe even stumble over the last Christmas presents.
disappointment!
this and that...
I´ve been working on a gift for someone (can´t tell, if she reads this...), I knew she had to have it, the minute I saw it. It´s small, and it´s felt, and that´s as much as I will say about it.
I sent Catherine in California a part of her swap package a couple of days ago, too. It had to wait for the holiday season. Sent Kwoozy her package also, and yesterday, when I made dinner, I found that I forgot to put something in her package. Fortunately, letters will find their way too...
I posted pics today
goody!
I got the books I were waiting for too, and remember what I said, that vintage and accessories never could be wrong? Well, I was wrong, the book was not at all what I expected, and I´ll be returning it. I got the S´n´B 2007 Calendar too, and I must admit that I was afraid that my socks wouldn´t be good enough to publish. Now that I saw what they published this year, my worries are all gone - my socks are definately good enough, and a lot better than some of the patterns in the calendar.
In my package from Momo in Japan, I got Hello Kitty rice spoons, wrapped in a Japanese newspaper. This weekend I used the paper to cover a glass bowl (decoupage), and it turned out really nice. I did a candle holder covered in a Marimekko paper napkin, and together with two more it will become either a birthday- or a christmas present. Decoupage is so much fun, there´s so much you can do with it. For example, making cards for a swap...
no fun, then it´s getting better
UPDATE: Ok, now `m done. I procrastinated for a couple of months, then I crammed the work in availeble time slots, that is om my lunch break, after I were done blogging. All I´ve got to do now, is write a paper this weekend, and this part of the course is done. Only 3/4 left...
Will post swap pics later today.
Hope for my books to arrive, the snow yesterday delayed the package. Hope a package from Tania waits when I get home - it sounds very promising!
They want to buy some felt pastries at work! Perfect for the kids to play with, since they don´t break easily, and don´t hurt when thrown into someone´s head...
things to brighten up a november day
I sent for a new CD, just in time for December and Christmas, I love Chris Isaak, so when I found a Christmas-CD with him, I went for it. I hope it´s as lovely as he usually is.
Brrr, it´s cold today!
cinnamon buns
Swedish Cinnamon Rolls from Janice
100 g (6 2/3 Tbsp - 15 g = 1 Tbsp) margarine
2 c milk
2 cakes fresh yeast
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. sugar
2 tsp. ground cardamom
5 1/4 c. (13 deciliters) bread flour
1 egg for brushing on top of rolls
Filling:
5 Tbsp margarine melted
1/4 c. sugar
3/4 Tbsp cinnamon
Melt margarine; add milk and heat to body temp. Break up yeast cakes in large mixing bowl and pour enough to melt yeast and blend evenly. Blend rest of liquid. Add salt, sugar and cardamom.
Gradually add flour (about 1/2 - 1c. at a time ) setting aside approx. 1/2 c. Work dough (around and back and forth, front and back) until it release from the sides of the bowl (with a whisk or wooden spoon). Sprinkle with small amount of flour, cover and let rise 30-40 min. Using rest of flour, kneed dough until rollable. Divide into 4 parts. Using rolling pin, roll each fourth into rectangles, about 10-12 inches. Brush with filling mixture. Cut into 10 strips, 3/4 inch. Roll each strip into a bun and set on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper (4x5 to a sheet). Cover and let rise 20 minutes. Brush tops with beaten egg. Sprinkle with pearl sugar (Janice has friends bring her from Sweden). Bake about 5-7 minutes at 475° until tops are golden brown. Makes 40 rolls.
miscellaneous
I´m hoping for nice surprises in the mail, package from Jenn in Japan is on it´s way, and so are books from Bokus, this years S´n´B calendar and a book on vintage accessories. I love vintage and I love accessories, how can this go wrong?
It´s time to get Pei´s package together (the third!). I´ve got some ideas, and I hope she does too. Myself, I´m getting presents from her trip to Singapore, and kawaii from Singapore is great, I know from experience.
It´s actually only two months til Xmas, can you believe it? Better get working on those gifts...
worst week of the month...
the good, the bad and the ugly - all in one day
My bday-books from YesAsia is on their way, they should arrive in the beginning of next week. Yay! I especially look forward to the bag-book, I need some new ideas, and that one is filled to the brim with good ideas and great bags. How I love bags!
I´m working a couple of hours today, that´s perfect. One should only have to work two hours every day, and still get payed a lot. Does anyone know where I can find such a job?
My jacket is getting baggier - that means I´m getting smaller! YAY! And I don´t feel I have to sacrifice anything either, cutting out flour/bread took away most of my cravings, even my PMT-cravings, how great is that?! And I still eat my chocolate, only it´s the dark kind, I had dessert yesterday, at my friends bdayparty, and I´m getting smaller! How perfect is that?
I need to buy shoes! I don´t have any shoes (except for two pairs of sneakers on the verge of melt down) that I can actually walk in, and there are no black shoes. I need shoes!
all in one day!
Today is a day of many good things!
1. I just finished the schoolwork that was due tomorrow, all I have to do is mail it to my professor.
2. I did a perm. A curly perm. And it came out wonderfully! I may not be a beauty, but at least my hair looks gorgeaus!
3. A package is waiting for me to pick it up at the post office.
4. Finally, I bought a new mascara. Much needed!
5. My finances seems to be solved, hopefully I´ll get my money in a week or two.
6. My parents gave me some money (they thought I´d starve...), 1000 SEK (135 USD) - thanks a lot!
7. The pattern publishing.
8. I heard from Jenn in Japan - the swap is on!
9. I´m not in my very un-comfy shoes anymore - yay sneakers!
How´s that for a day´s work?! I definately needed a pick-me-up day! Finally the karma-thing payes off!
at least I don´t have PMT!
Long gone are my family too. I´ll miss my youngest sisters, hopefully they´ll move closer sometimes. The good thing with sisters that much younger, is that we didn´t fight much growing up, so we never had to work through that later, when we became older.
I look forward to Bazar on TV tonight. I saw the rerun of last program last night, and I liked it. Very me. And if you wonder what "me" is, it´s cheap solutions, thrift finds, mixing styles and time periods and making it very personal. When I´m all done at home (whenever thet is) there will be elements of the 50s, 60s and
70s, some kitsch, some north african/east indian, some black/white combinations and some self made ideas/solutions. I´m partly there, but there´s a lot missing to. It´s an ever growing process.
As my previous post said, I got Japanese craft books today. Yay!
I found a great link at Hanna´s, you MUST go check out Twinkie´s Fridge!
I´ve sewn a bag and purse for Tania, but were having doubts about both. Today I made another purse, and feel very good about that decision. Now I have to decide if the bag needs to be remade too.
fab place and some animal loving
I´m hoping my finances is untangeling, hopefully in time to pay my rent and bills. I would very much like to have a roof over my head, and some money to swap for. By the way, Alvina got her package, and says she liked it. Goody!
I want a dog! The family dog (a collie girl named Frida) was so happy to see me yesterday, even though the cats may be happy too, they never show it like that: licking, tail-wagging, barking... You feel like the most special person in the world. Although it feels really special when the cats both comes to bed with me, too. I could not bare not sleeping with my cats, and if anyone ever asked me to choose between them or that person, the choice is easy.
weight-stuff, mostly
You know, I was really looking forward to see that new TV-program yesterday, to end a bad day with something good. Well, guess what?! No TV. At all. Out of order! How typical is that! I ended up reading all night instead, and the book was rather good, but I felt deprived.
I started reading Dr Phil´s "The Ultimate Weight Solution" too. For someone who says that his way is totally diffrent than anything else you´ve ever tried, and that this will work, he sounds a lot like every other weight loss book I´ve ever read. And that´s a few, since I´m always looking for the ultimate solution. At the moment, I feel like I´m doing something right, it´s easy, I don´t weigh or measure things, no counting, I eat until I´m full - it feels like I could go on like this permanently. I just eat my usual vegan diet (without the cheating), cutting out bread and pasta. I allow myself to eat candy, if it´s from abroad (no wonder I love these Gimme Your Stuff-swaps!) or if it´s vegan. And when I need a push, I watch or read "You are what you eat", which works very well with me, since it´s maybe not entirely vegan, but close, and makes a lot of sense (in my ears at least).
a lot of crappiness.... and some things good!
Good thing: My parents, sister(s) and dog are coming this Thursday, and it´s been a while.
Another good thing: A new interior decorating program, Bazar, starts today, and it sounds like I will like it. Fingers crossed!
Great thing: Books from YesAsia is on their way, they should arrive in the beginning of next week. Yay!
