"Bend-the-Rules Sewing: The Essential Guide to a Whole New Way to Sew" - Amy Karol

image591

I just got this in the mail, and I´ve only flipped through it real quick (while on the bus, being motion sick...), but it looks promising! It´s got a big section on how-to for the beginning, and a bunch of very nice patterns. Even though I´m not a beginner, I´m sure I can use it, especially to improve my skills - I´m not a great seamstress (as my loved ones like to think), but good at colours and fabric. This book is just what I need to fine tune my sewing!

I believe that time is circular, not linear...

Which means that things have a tendency to repeat themself. Which means, I´m getting more into amigurumis again. I would be more into it, if I had some stuffing at home, so I could actually make them too. But, I did shop for some books, well one amigurumi, one on felt mascots, and one that turned out to be something completely different. First:

Amigurumi! Super Happy Crochet Cute - Elisabeth Doherty
These creatures are perhaps the reason I first fell in love with amigurumis - they are amazing! And now you can make them yourself! The four dolls on the cover are in fact the only four dolls you get patterns for, but then there are plenty of other things to make as well. including foods (a hamburger!) and different animals (oh, that deer!). It´s a lovely book, and not to forget - it´s in English, nothing to be taken for granted in the otherwise Japanese world of cute crafts. Must buy!

The Cute Book - Aranzi Aronzo
Yes, there are plenty of cute felt mascots in here, but there are also bad ones, some definately more naughty than nice, and they are all very pretty. It´s all in English, with the clear, precise instructions we´ve gotten used to in Japanese craft books. And mostly, I think, it´s an inspiration - after reading it, I also wanted to doodle fun characters and turn them into felt mascots.

The Bad Book - Aranzi Aronzo
I bought this, in the hope that it would be a darker version of "The Cute Book", a craft book that is, and it wasn´t - not even close. It´s a comic/picture book, with the badder characters from "The Cute Book", and not at all what I expected. I´m not even that sure I will keep it - it´s too much money, for a book I won´t probably ever read again. Look through it first, before you purchase, is my advice!

And talking about amigurumis - it´s soon Halloween, how about making some ami-decorations?

"The crafter culture handbook" - Amy Spencer

image515

Now, this is a book that was a pleasant surprise! I had high hopes, after reading about it, but it managed to succeed my expectations! The book is filled to the brim with non-traditional, new-thinking crafts, that makes you (me anyway) go oooh and aaah, and I want to try several projects. A really good book, I think, and somehow I managed to buy it cheaper (with shipping and all!) here in Sweden than on Amazon!

"Sublime stitching" - Jenny Hart

image516

I´ve only taken a quick look so far, but I can already say, that I´m disappointed by this book. Jenny Hart is one of the most inventiv embroiderer out ther, I think, and her non-traditional patterns are the reason I bought this book, but there are very little of those here. Don´t get me wrong, I will probably use some of the patterns, but I had higher hopes.

I ordered a couple of crafty books

I ordered a book a few days ago, and another one today, so I had to tell you about it. I really look forward to getting them. The first one is Sublime Stitching by Jenny Hart, the most inventive embroiderer out there. Today I found "The Crafter Culture Handbook" by Amy Spencer, with a lot of great projects. But I´m not sure if that´s the book I´ll recieve - the ISBN is right, but the publishing date is wrong, and so is the cover, I guess I´ll have to be surprised. I have to say, I have high hopes for both books!

"Naughty Needles"- Nikol Lohr

16274-463

This cover doesn´t lie - there´s some truly naughty knits in this one! Undrewear, absolutely, but also little gadget for all of you into S&M and bondage, clever hiding places for your toys, dress-ups to spark up your evenings... And the pictures are so great, all in the 50s pinup sprit, just like the one on the cover. I love this book, and if you´re not the shrinking violet, I´m sure you will too!

"Domiknitrix" - Jennifer Stafford

16274-464

I really like this book, I love it´s lay-out and I love the knitting projects, this is definately the knitting book for the crafty goth, or for you who´s tired of Martha Stewart-land. There´s also a big how-to-section, for the beginner, and everything is wrapped in an all together lovely book. Buy!

At Knit´s End and Yarn Harlot - Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

16274-279 16274-280

These books are basically the same, the first one, At knit´s end are short "meditations" on knitting, and the latter, Yarn Harlot is elaberations on the first. But never mind that - they are nice books in the knitter´s bookshelf, they´re funny and thought worthy, and you can feel re-assured, that you are by no means the worst one out there... If you don´t have much time to read, pick the first one, if you can spend some time in bed/on the sofa/on the hammock - pick the latter"! Or do what I did - do both!

16274-89

Greetings from Knit Cafe - Susan Mischer

16274-88

Mother of purl - Edith Eig

16274-86

Knitticisms... and other purls of wisdom

16274-85

Köp For the love of knitting i stället!

A yorkshire fable - thirty knitting designs

16274-84

Died in the wool - Mary Kruger

16274-82

Stitch ´n Bitch crochet: The happy hooker - Debbie Stoller

16274-44

Pa Jinglebob - The fastest knitter in the west

16274-80

For the love of knitting

16274-79
